Travel Wishlist, Part 4 - Ski Trips in North America

Chuck Sun, 2013-08-04 19:00
Readers who know me (Chuck) might know also that last year I lost 80 pounds. So when we took our ski trip this past winter, it was unsurprisingly the absolute best ever. We did 3 days at Killington, Vermont and I ski'd solid from first turns of the lift to last one off the mountain. I've never been able to do that, and it was motivation enough to keep the weight off and stay in shape! Next year we have our sites set on Colorado, so that's a bit of a departure from my original blog... Having grown up in South Mississippi (where if you go any further south you are in the Gulf of Mexico), we are...

Travel Wishlist, Part 3 - Full Vacations in the US

Chuck Sat, 2013-08-03 17:00
We can check one off...Lori and I took the California wine country trip this summer. It was an A+ vacation, worthy of several upcoming blogs. So if the long weekend trips are the bread and butter, the vacations are the entre', the main course. We've been fortunate to have been able to take some great vacations, like this past summer's trip to Europe which I blogged about in great detail. But there's always more on the list. Here's my current list of want-to-do's in the USA. California Wine Tasting - a colleague of mine is a great wine lover and goes on a wine tasting and collecting trip every...

Travel Wishlist, Part 2 - Long Weekends in the US

Since I originally wrote this blog, we've done exactly 0 of these long weekends. Yet they are still all appealing to me, so my list appears to be enduring! Long weekends and short trips are the bread and butter for us vacation lovers; it's great to plan the big trips for months in advance, but it's also great to take those more frequent, quick, short-notice trips (as in a few weeks to a couple of months in advance). We head to the north Georgia mountains a couple of times a year to enjoy a weekend of solitude, mountain air, and to simply get away from the city. Some of our other recent quick...

Travel Wishlist, Part 1 – Planning is Part of the Fun

Chuck Wed, 2013-07-31 15:00
I originally posted this blog October of 2012 on my Wordpress site , but thought it worthwhile posting again here :-) To sort-of follow through on the travel theme of my last few weeks of blogs, and before I move on to other topics, I thought I'd blog a little about my travel wishlist. I've maintained a similar list for years, never calling it a "bucket list" in that I think of them more as things I want to do rather than things that I have some need to do. Hence, some things come and go on the list as my moods change (for example, India alternatively appears on my list from time to time and...

Hello, from Chuck & Lori

Chuck Wed, 2013-07-24 08:06
We want to see the world. We want to experience other cultures. We want to immerse ourselves and live like locals, eating local cuisine and drinking the local wine. People think they have to be rich to do this, or at the least, retired. We believe there is a different way, that this is simply a lifestyle choice. So that's what this blog is about: a middle-aged, recently empty-nested couple, figuring out how to pull this challenge off. Like everyone else, we'll need to work to afford life, regardless of where and how we're living it. But we'll work in such a way that work supports our lives,...
